Igor Khalandovskiy was born in Ukraine in the city of Kharkov. Since his school years he dreamed of becoming a professional artist.  After graduating from high school, Igor entered the Kharkov Art Academy, and spent seven years studying painting, drawing, art composition, graphic illustration, art and industrial design.  At the school Igor was one of the top students in his class where several of his projects won awards for the best art design at International Exhibitions.

Igor graduated in 1991 with his Master’s Degree in Fine Arts.  He has since worked as a graphic artist and an art designer.  For the past nineteen years he has lived and worked in the United States.  Igor has learned and mastered such fields as graphic design and digital animation.  To improve his professional expertise in digital art media Igor entered Iowa State University. He is close to completing his second Master’s Degree in the fields of digital visualization and landscape architecture.  For the past four year Igor has been working as a teacher of graphic art and design at Des Moines Area Community College (Ankeny Campus).

Igor states: “This art exhibition is somewhat a summary of my work. Here are presented some of my very recent, as well as my earlier paintings. In my art I attempted to express my individual perception of the surrounding world. My pictures are a fusion (blend) of symbolism and surrealism. Such an eclectic approach offers unique opportunity to represent life as a dramatic duel between dreams and reality. Often my works are fantastical landscapes filled with internal collision. There I use features of antiquity, ancient Egypt, Assyria, Sumerian, Indian civilization. Canvas space is a construction site filled with architectural symbols; which reflect my vision of my own life, life of my family and friends, history and fate of my homeland.

Technically my paintings are general mixed media – tempera, pastel, watercolor, acrylic, and oil paints. My later works combine traditional art technique with computer graphics.”
