Job Description

ArtForceIowa’s mission is to “transform youth in need through art.”  The organization offers programs in visual, performance, and digital arts, as well as workforce readiness and life-skills.  ArtForceIowa seeks a Program Assistant that will be responsible for engaging youth in program activities and offering administrative support to the Executive Director.

The Program Assistant will perform the following tasks:

Program Activities:

Group Sessions - Leading group sessions in the arts (if possible) or in life skills. Transporting youth as needed  (15%).

Mentorship and Advocacy - Meeting with individuals on a one-on-one basis to discuss goals and needs, advocating for youth in schools and the court system, attending hearings. (35%)

Administrative Activities:

Communication - Making regular contact with youth to confirm and encourage their participation in daily programming. (20%)

Administration - Maintaining casenotes, filing, answering inquiries.  Developing website and social media content.(30%)  

Requirement:

-A bachelor’s degree is preferred, but significant casework experience would be acceptable.

-Experience in arts-teaching, youth development, caseworking, or administration.

-Belief in the transformative power of the arts for  youth in need.

-Drivers license and access to a vehicle (mileage will be paid)

-Passes review of criminal background information.

Details:

Hours: Negotiable (25-30hrs per week), typical hours range between 11am and 6pm.

Salary: $12 to $14/hr for part time

Benefits:  No benefits

Period: This position is funded through December 2014 and may continue pending funding

Expected start Date:  8/15

The Artist-Mentor for Music leads a weekly workshop of youth who are interested in learning skills in singing, guitar, and/or piano. We are looking for a multi-talented artist that is interested in working with at-risk youth.  Patience and openness is a must!
