(West Des Moines) - Link Associates is pleased to announce that it has received a project grant in the amount of $3,000 from the Iowa Arts Council, a Division of the Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs.  As a recipient of a fiscal year 2014-2015 grant, Link Associates will carry out a program called the Big Art Series, which will fund individuals with intellectual disabilities to experience in-depth art instruction in: printmaking, sculpture, drawing and exhibitionarts.

Linda Dunshee, Executive Director of Link Associates states, “persons with disabilities can easily be excluded from all that society has to offer.  The Big Art Series allows persons with intellectual disabilities to fully participate and experience their unique artistic talents; as well as showcase their art work in a public exhibition on December 5, 2014.  I am grateful to the Iowa Arts Council for making this a reality.”

Link Associates is a non-profit organization serving children and adults with intellectual and physical disabilities living in central Iowa; over 1,200 individuals are served yearly.  A variety of program areas promote independence: residential, vwocational in-house, day habilitation, community employment and job placement, employment skills development, transportation, supportive services to families, case management, a retirement program, leisure, recreation and day habilitation services.

Funding for the Big Art Series is made possible by the Iowa Arts Council, a division of the Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs, and the National Endowment for the Arts, which is allowing Link Associates to contribute to the vitality of the arts in Iowa and create a one-of-a-kind experience for persons with intellectual disabilities.   For more information about this program, please contact Laura Housel, Day Habilitation Administrator, at lhousel@linkassociates.org.
