Mika Rottenberg (argentine, born 1976) Cheese, 2007, mixed, wood and video installation

M I K A  R O T T E N B E R G

Mika rottenberg’s ‘Cheese’, a room-size video installation was gifted to the Des Moines Art Center and is currently available to experiance in the PEI wing.

“Cheese combines the typical view of the farm girl, complete with a rough wooden animal pen, with the fairy tale Rapunzel. Here, six long-hair maidens in white gowns “milk” their hair and goats to make cheese. Representing mother nature, the women and these activities illustrate for Rottenberg the ability of the female to ‘grow things out of the body.’”
